Bats are the second-most diverse group of mammals, with over 1,300 species recognized in the world. They are important components of ecosystems, providing services as varied as spreading seeds, pollinating flowers, eating insect pests, and even providing scientists with anticoagulant enzymes that may help stroke patients.
Join us on this live Zoom presentation to appreciate the significance of bats and the monitoring efforts by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) that have been underway for rare and declining NY bats.
Dr. Angelena Ross, a Biologist at DEC, has been working with NYS endangered and threatened species. Dr. Ross has been involved in bat monitoring in northern NY since 2006. She is originally from the Albany area, but currently resides in Norfolk, NY.
